In March, 2012 a group of caring residents of the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association decided to form an organization with their mission: to serve others in the community. They felt a need for a structured organization to continue their efforts.  This was the beginning of Beyond Ourselves, the community service organization of the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association.

Beyond Ourselves meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at the PGICA.   New members are always welcome to join and help with our events and fundraisers. Yearly dues are $10 per family.

Fishing Club

We welcome you to experience what our club has to offer. It’s the largest and one of the most active clubs within the PGICA umbrella. The club is open to all. We have members with expertise levels that run from beginner all the way to expert class. Many of our experienced anglers enjoy and embrace helping others learn from their knowledge base. We also have a vigorous social structure within the club to keep those “part time anglers” happy too. Visit our website (www.pgifishingclub.org) and look through our recent newsletters to get a feel for our activities.
The Fishing Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm at the PGICA auditorium. At each meeting we have a subject-matter expert speak on various topics. We tap local charter captains, FWC representatives, as well as environmental issue management experts. The meeting forum allows for a healthy exchange of information, including lures, tackle, locations, and techniques. Each meeting is concluded with a small soda and cookie social where our experienced anglers make themselves available for questions and maybe even arranging trips with you.
The club also meets for a “happy hour” every Wednesday evening at 5 pm at the Elks. Come join us! A fisherman’s breakfast occurs every Monday and Friday morning at Elena’s Restaurant at 1101 Cross St. in Punta Gorda at about 6:30 am. Great forum to talk serious fishing intel!

Our annual calendar has several club fishing tournaments, picnics, seminars, and our big bash in December is our Holiday Party where we get to dress up a bit.

Contact us (membership@pgifishingclub.org)  or simply attend a monthly meeting. You won’t regret it. See you there!

Social Clubs

FF&C Website

Friends, Fun & Community (FF&C) is a social club that was formed in July 2019.  We have happy hours, general meetings, men’s and women’s lunches, and various other activities that help you connect with existing friends and meet new ones.  We also strive to give back to the community by promoting volunteerism.

The best way to see what our club is all about is to come to one of our regularly scheduled get-togethers.

  • Our General Meeting is held at the PGICA from 5:30 to 7:30 on the 3rd Monday each month. These meetings include dinner, various speakers and/or fun activities. We have several speakers lined up to keep us informed about our community and to let us know about volunteer opportunities.
  • We have a Happy Hour each month at the 4 Points Sheraton (33 Tamiami Trail in Punta Gorda) from 5:00 to 7:00 on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Feel free to stop by and get acquainted with our members

JFF - Just for Fun
Just For Fun Website
Contact Us

What is JFF besides a pink flamingo with sunglasses and flip-flops?  We’re a social group of energetic friends who enjoy having a good time and giving back to the community while we’re at it.  Some of us are still working and looking forward to retirement; some of us have already retired and are looking forward to no work.  But one thing we all have in common: we like to chill out, lighten up and have fun!

We also like to stay busy, so we pack the calendar with lots of fun and crazy events.  We have TGIFs, dinners, luncheons, socials, and anything else that strikes our fancy (Did you know there’s a National Margarita Day?  Well, we didn’t either, but the minute we found out, we threw together a margarita party. Now that’s carpe diem with a rim of salt!).  On a more sober, ahem… note, our awesome Reading Group and artistic and educational outings provide food for the mind, while our charitable events provide food for the soul.

Now that was quite a list, but we have one more thing to add.  Each month, we have a party—a big one that is often themed and always outrageous.  Examples you say?  How about a 1920s Speakeasy complete with secret door, passwords, the Charleston, and Tommy guns—fake, of course.  We don’t mix bathtub gin with heavy metal. We’ve celebrated Mardi Gras with king cakes, crawfish, and a parade; had a scavenger hunt dressed in black and white; and played the Newlywed Game while tasting wine.

JFF says, “That’s the Way I Like It” when they “Play that Funky Music” as we are “Staying Alive” in beautiful PGI.

Join the PGICA Tennis Club and enjoy the sport while building friendships. Our members represent all levels of play from novice to advanced, but most are in the USTA 3.0 to 3.5 range.  We offer three state-of-the-art Composition Courts which are located adjacent to the Civic Association.

Many of our members play in one of three traveling leagues including the Peace River Senior Men’s Tennis League, The 50+ Women’s Tennis League and the Charlotte County Women’s Tennis League.  If you are not interested in league tennis, join the Club for exercise and an opportunity to meet other SW Floridians who love the game of tennis.

Our annual dues are $75 per family per calendar year, with a onetime $100 initiation fee.   Financially, our club is totally independent from the Association and the initiation fee is used for periodic court resurfacing, net replacement and general maintenance.

Please browse our Tennis Club Website to learn more about the Club.  Better yet, stop by the courts and ask a member how you can join the fun!

And remember, new members are always welcome regardless of skill level.
