Fishing Club
One of the prime attractions in the Charlotte Harbor area, sometimes referred to as Southwest Florida’s best kept secret, is sport fishing. The Harbor itself, offers great shallow water fishing for snook, redfish, sea trout, jack crevalle, and ladyfish. During the spring and summer months, often extending into early fall, tarpon, shark, cobia, and Spanish mackerel roam these inside waters. Off shore reefs hold a wide variety of species including grouper, snapper, barracuda, permit, and amberjack. Anglers watch for the spring and fall king mackerel migration, and the tarpon fishing , in and around, Boca Grand pass is world famous.
Since sport fishing is the second largest participant sport in America, and the number one participant sport in Florida; it’s no wonder the PGI Fishing Club is one of the bigger, and more active, clubs in the Civic Association.
The Clubs prime function is to provide informational programs and events that will allow members to take advantage of the many fishing opportunities that exist in the area. Most meetings feature a guest speaker, often a professional guide or experienced angler, who covers tackle selection, rigging methods, and techniques that have proven successful in local waters. Members have the opportunity to ask questions, report on current fishing conditions, exchange ideas, and swap fish stories.
Members are encouraged to participate in Club Tournaments, fishing outings, special “how too” clinics, and a number of social functions. Membership is made up of anglers, both male and female; whose fishing skills run range from beginner to expert. New area residents find PGI Fishing Club meetings provide valuable information on fishing conditions that exist in their own back yard.
