BEYOND OURSELVES Marlene Hofer,

Share the Love for the Kids Home Tour: The spectacular result of the 2018
Share the Love for the Kids Home Tour is that we raised $45,000. This is
impressive news for our children of Charlotte County. It is mind-boggling and
thrilling that this was the amount. We raised $22,000 for Crossroads Hope
Academy in September and now we have given out a total of $292,000 over the
past nine years to our charities. Many thanks go to all who participated in the
Home Tour by purchasing tickets this year. It was so invigorating to see so many
people come and explore the six fabulous homes and the beautiful garden.

Special thanks go to those who volunteered their time and talent to make this
happen. We are grateful for Chairperson Carol Nieberline who headed the 2018
Home Tour. We also want to thank all the homeowners who graciously opened
their homes to the people who participated in this year’s tour. Our homeowners
allow us the opportunity to create this event in the first place. We also thank
those men and women who were guides inside the houses and those who helped
with parking at the houses. Last but
not least, a big thank you goes to
                                            sponsors, committee chairs and
volunteers for all of your efforts. Our
tour booklet given to all ticket holders
                                            includes silver, gold, platinum and
                                            diamond sponsors who donated $250
to $2,500. Our diamond sponsors are
                                            Jerry Hayes with
                                            RE/MAX Anchor Realty of Marina

and West Coast Builders. The Punta

A big hit was the beautiful baskets created for the Home Tour. Many people
bought tickets for a chance to win one of these baskets. The Friday evening
before the Home Tour, workers who were busy on Home Tour day were
given an opportunity to view the various houses and were also able to enter
the drawing to win a basket. They were invited to attend a thank-you reception on Friday evening for the homeowners
and other volunteers. We look forward to disbursing the money raised to the children of Charlotte County.

Please save the date for next year’s Share the Love for the Kids Home Tour which will be held on February 2, 2019. We
look forward to our tenth year of raising money for the children of Charlotte County.

Charlotte County Homeless Shelter: We need volunteers to serve dinner at the CCHC on Saturday, March 3. Arrive at
4:30 and leave by 6. Contact Ruth Kliment at or 941-347-7776 to volunteer. The next dinner
         will be on April 7.

Monthly Meeting: Join us for our monthly meeting on March 21 at 10 a.m. at the PGICA. At our last meeting, the Peace
River Wildlife Center (PRWC) reported that groundbreaking for the new PRWC is supposed to start sometime in April.
The new PRWC facility area will be one acre which is double what it is today. They will also have the ability to show
online the areas where they work on animals. That is something the public has not been able to see before. One of our
Beyond Ourselves goals is to help preserve the environment and wildlife so we are very happy to report about this new
center. The PRWC also reported that they treated 25,000 animals in 2017.

All members are invited to attend our monthly meetings. If you are new to our community, come hear about what we do
         for outreach in our community.

Shoebox Collection: Over the holidays we received 27 pre-packaged and/or wrapped shoeboxes. We were also able to
make 127 complete boxes from donated items brought to PGICA. Members and friends of the group brought more boxes
and at our wrapping party on December 13. We ultimately had 317 finished and wrapped boxes of toiletries for the men,
women and children who use the services of the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition. A huge thank you goes to all and
especially Cris Scheib for the luncheon and opening her home for the wrapping party.
