This month brings us the exciting Florida Lobster Mini Season, an annual event which allows sportsman to harvest the local Caribbean Spiny lobster before the regular recreational and commercial season opens August 6. The dates for this event are always the last Wednesday and Thursday in the month of July, this year July 28 and 29. Refer to the Florida Saltwater Fishing Regulations which provide ample information for the lobster hunter. As a result, our club, which normally meets on the third Thursday of each month, will move this month’s meeting to Fantasea Scuba in Port Charlotte on Thursday, July 22 at 6 p.m. where a seminar on lobster hunting techniques, laws and safety will be conducted by owner Jim Joseph and officials from the FWC (Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission).

For those new to our association, in addition to the diving we do, we continue to have programs and speakers (like this months‘ lobster seminar) from local scuba shops, equipment manufacturers and local SW Florida experts addressing the club on a wide variety of diving topics such as environmental concerns for tropical reefs, scuba diving instruction specialty classes, underwater photography, hunting for lobsters, spear fishing, fossil hunting, reef life fish count surveys and live-aboard dive trips to exotic destinations.

Our organization is always looking for divers of all experience levels to join in the fun. Whether your ability and diving interest is novice or advanced, we will be planning events for your level of experience. Hope to see you soon at one of our dives, meetings or club functions.
