Third Friday of each month - Amplified Telephone Distribution

Florida residents with hearing or speech loss qualify for amplified telephones at no cost through Florida Telecommunications Relay, Inc. On the third Friday of each month, Hearing Impaired Persons, Inc. will distribute telephones at the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association, room 5, 2001 Shreve Street, Punta Gorda, from 9-11:00 a.m. Distribution is by appointment only. September 7th (Tuesday), at 7 p.m.,Beyond PGI series begins:

PGI member, Harold Lang, will be the featured speaker.  His topic will be sharing his travels in Italy - for additional information.

October 5th (Tuesday), at 7 p.m., Beyond PGI series:

Cate Peterson will be the featured speaker presenting “The Temples of Bangkok” for details.

October 11th (Monday) from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. - Influenza Vaccinations

As in years past, we would appreciate your registration at the civic association during the three weeks prior to the event.  You will also receive a personal information slip for the use of the nurse that contains the time frame for your vaccinations. Please do not forget your membership cards.  Vaccines available are; Influenza, recommended yearly, $25; Adult Diphtheria (Tetanus), recommended every ten years, $ 45; and Pneumococcal vaccine, recommended every five years.  All the above should be covered by your Medicare or your private insurance.  Non members of the civic association will be admitted to the vaccinations on a first come, first served basis.  Cash and personal checks will be accepted.

October 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Bloodmobile

will be at the civic association for the purpose of blood donation.  This visit will be in honor of one of our members, Maryann Artesani. Please come and donate what you can and encourage your neighbors to join you. 

November 1st (Monday), at 7p.m. will be the Annual Meeting of the Association.

November 6th - Fifth Annual Fine Arts and Crafts Festival at PGICA.

Applications for this judged event will be accepted through September 1. Please pick up your applications and submit your photos, spaces are going quickly. Remember, we welcome all vendors and volunteers. Contact the Gifted Gator for more information.

November 17th (Wednesday), from 9-11 a.m. Shredding Service

The shredding service at the Association building.  This is free to all PGI members.

DECEMBER 18th, (SATURDAY) Lighted Boat Parade

Beginning at 6PM, the Lighted Boat Parade celebrates it's tenth anniversary.   Information about how to participate in the parade and where to see the parade will be in the Commentator and on the PGICA web site.  Information is available now from Tom Little, kalani@comcast.net.

December 31st - PGICA PRESENTS NEW YEARS EVE PARTY

Carnival for Cooper Street Kids2011 - DATE- MARCH 5th

The PGICA will be sponsoring the 2nd Annual "Carnival for Kids" on March 5, 2011. We are looking now for volunteers to help with this very worthy event.  Last year the Carnival raised $7500 for the children of Punta Gorda.  We hope to raise more this year, but need your help.  Volunteers are needed for decorations, ticket sales, food, games and for the silent auction items.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Carol Nieberline at cnieberline@yahoo.com

The PUNTA GORDA ISLES CIVIC ASSOCIATION
will be 50 Years Old in 2012!!!!!

PGICA is planning a celebration of our 50th anniversary.  In preparation for this event, we are asking members to loan us memorabilia such as old maps, PGI sales brochures, pictures, newspapers, old Commentators, or anything you think might be of general interest. Please bring your items to the PGICA office. Let’s build a display together to show our tremendous growth. All items will be returned.
