PGICA Recognition Program

May, 2017

We are all aware that Punta Gorda is one of the most desirable places to live in Southwest Florida. Punta Gorda Isles is the largest community within city limits and one of its many gems. The heart of the Isles is the Civic Association and the many clubs that fall under its umbrella. The focus of my article this month is our clubs.

PGICA has come a long way since moving from the old sales office on Marion Ave. There are many reasons for that, but I believe our clubs play a big role in our success. Some of our clubs are decades old; other were formed within the last few years. Clubs meet the needs of the membership but they don’t just happen.

First there is an idea, then a person needs to step forward who is willing to organize the group and finally members gather. Somewhere in this process is a leader, someone who wants to get things done. Surprisingly, they are usually people who are active in other community activities. They are the doers. You have heard the saying: “if you want something to get done, ask a busy person.”

These are the people the Recognition Committee seeks. PGICA has a program to honor those who have made a difference.  Within each club, we know there are people who deserve to be recognized for doing their part in making PGI a great place to call home. Please take the time to nominate someone from your club or activity.

Candidates will be evaluated based on the extent of their volunteerism and the importance and long term impact of their contributions. Only current and former residents of Punta Gorda Isles are eligible. Current members of the Board of Directors of PGICA are not eligible.

Please take a look at those who you believe have made a difference within your club or organization. Then, take the time to nominate someone who you believe deserves recognition. The committee would appreciate you use the forms available at the PGICA office. An informational brochure is also available on the kiosk.
