Some months before Hurricane Charlie, a plan to construct a new building for the Civic Association on Shreve Street moved forward. The work started and only the block walls were completed, before Charlie reduced them to rubble. The Association was determined more than ever to have a new facility, so the walls were rebuilt and the building and the tennis courts were completed in the fall of 2005. Then in 2006, the Board of Directors supported an idea from Dick Shelton, Center Administrator to build a picnic pavilion where the clubs and members could hold all kinds of outdoor activities from club socials to weddings. The motion was put to a vote at the November 2006 General Meeting and it passed with flying colors. On Saturday, the 28th of April 2007, (only seven months from member’s approval), a grand opening was held.

A capacity crowd in excess of 200 people were on hand along with Vice- Mayor Harvey Goldberg, and City Council members Marilyn Smith- Mooney, Bill Albers, and Charles Wallace. Bryan Lyttle sang a beautiful rendition of God Bless America. The president of the Association, Maryann Cavanna, thanked the prior Board of Directors for having the vision to approve the building of the current facility and most recently, the construction of this outstanding picnic pavilion. She took special note of all the volunteers that made the day possible and presented Dick Shelton, the project’s coordinator with a memento for an incredible job well done. The day was further highlighted when the Isles Girls and Guys donated $8000 toward the pavilion construction. Bill Albers, past president and City council member, summed it all up by beginning his remarks with "It keeps on getting better" referring to the Association’s remarkable growth. When Development Director, Mike Fauci was asked about any future projects, he smiled and said “who knows, however our Bocce Club would like to see the addition of two bocce courts, so they can play their home matches right here at the center”. A fitting end to this fine ceremony was a complementary barbecue lunch, followed by a display of the many clubs that the Association has to offer.
